The City Government of Mati through the City Health Office headed by City Health Officer Dr. Benhur Catbgan in partnership with the Department of Health XI represented by its Sr. Health Program Manager Ms. Jinky Espino had led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Safe Birthing Facility (Paanakan) at Brgy. Luban, City of Mati this morning.
Anchored on Millenium Development Goal (MDG) # 5 which stresses improvement of maternal health, the project under the Bottom-Up-Budgeting (BUB) program answers the challenge through its concrete facility where maternal mortality and child death at birth can be prevented and reduced eventually.
City Health Officer Dr. Benhur Catbagan explained the significance and importance of this facility wherein pregnant women can be protected from the risk of giving birth, especially that Barangays Lanca, Luban and Cabuaya are considered to be Geographically Identified Depressed Areas (GIDA). “First and foremost, this project meets the people at their point of need”, he said.
Meanwhile, Ms. Espino shared and lauded the efforts of the City Government being the first LGU in the Region to implement BUB program under DOH. She said that it is really the battle cry of their department to improve maternal health and protect pregnant women.
The facility, situated at the satellite office of the City at Brgy. Luban, covering the neighbouring barangay Lanca, is the 4th facility in Mati. One City of Mati Balay Paanakan(CMBP) North is at Brgy. Dahican, another CMBP South in Brgy. Badas, and one birthing room at Brgy. Cabuaya, attached to their Brgy. Health Station.
