The City of Mati commemorated the 128th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal on December 30, 2024, with a solemn ceremony at the Rizal Monument in the City Hall compound.
Representing Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat was her nephew, Sito Rabat, who led city officials, students, and residents in honoring the life and legacy of the national hero.

In his keynote address, Sito Rabat emphasized the importance of Rizal’s teachings in shaping a nation rooted in unity, education, and patriotism.
“Today let us honor Dr. Jose Rizal by embodying his ideals — love for country, bravery, and the pursuit of knowledge. Let his legacy inspire us to build a better future and uplift the lives of all those people we serve,” Rabat said.


The ceremony included a flag-raising event, the laying of wreaths at the Rizal Monument, and a short program that featured performances inspired by Rizal’s writings and his profound love for the country.
Sito Rabat also conveyed Mayor Michelle Rabat’s message, expressing her gratitude to Matinians for their unwavering commitment to the values Rizal stood for.
“As we reflect on the legacy of Dr. Jose Rizal, let us embrace his values as we strive to be model government employees thru our integrity, diligence and devotion to duty. He taught us that our work impact the lives of our fellow Filipinos thru honesty, accountability, and the commitment to the common good,” the young Rabat said.
The Rizal Day event concluded with a community prayer for national unity and progress, reflecting on the hero’s enduring legacy.
Mati City’s observance of Rizal Day stands as a testament to the city’s dedication to honoring the past while striving for a future guided by the principles of patriotism, education, and civic responsibility.
