Eco-Tourism in Bloom: Mati LGU Develops Culian Botanical Garden & Nature Park

Mati LGU Unveils Comprehensive Landscape Plans for Culian Botanical Garden and Nature Park

The Mati City Planning and Development Office has revealed detailed landscape plans for the development of a botanical garden and nature park in Barangay Culian, City of Mati, Davao Oriental.

This ambitious project, outlined in two meticulously prepared site landscape plans, highlights a vision of promoting green spaces, sustainability, and recreation for residents and visitors alike.

The plans detail a comprehensive layout that integrates natural elements with modern landscaping.

The area is divided into several themed zones, each designed to showcase unique plant species and provide immersive experiences.

Among the key features are:

  1. Bamboo Grove – Highlighting various bamboo species for aesthetic and ecological purposes.
  2. Orchard Walk – A dedicated path featuring fruit-bearing trees, offering a blend of agriculture and nature.
  3. Rainforest Boardwalk – A serene pathway surrounded by hardwood trees, allowing visitors to experience the local rainforest ecosystem.
  4. The Palm Valley – Showcasing a diverse range of palm species.
  5. The Sundial Flower Garden – A vibrant display of colorful flowers, emphasizing seasonal blooms.
  6. The Tranquil Overlook – Providing panoramic views of the park’s lush landscapes overlooking the scenic Pujada Bay.
  7. The Nature’s Nook and Pavilion – Serving as a central hub for gatherings and educational activities.

Each area is strategically designed with pathways and green spaces to encourage exploration and relaxation, blending functionality with aesthetic appeal.

The site plans emphasize biodiversity by featuring schedules of plant species, including ornamental foliage, fruit-bearing trees, bamboo, and hardwoods.

These schedules ensure that the park contributes to environmental conservation while educating visitors about native and ornamental flora.

The project was conceptualized and designed by architect Rich Steven S. Pagas, with approvals and guidance from the City Planning and Development Office, headed by ENP Joseph Porgatorio.

City Mayor Michelle Rabat has also endorsed the project, underscoring its significance as a landmark initiative for the city’s urban development and environmental sustainability efforts.

The botanical garden and nature park aims to serve as a beacon of eco-tourism and community engagement.

By combining recreational spaces with educational opportunities, the project envisions promoting awareness about environmental preservation while offering a serene retreat for the city’s residents and tourists.

The City Planning and Development Office is expected to release more details on the project timeline and implementation phases in the coming months, as the city prepares to transform this vision into reality.
