CITY OF MATI, Davao Oriental – The hosting of the City of Mati and the Province of Davao Oriental to the Davao Region Athletic Association (DAVRAA) Meet 2017 had officially kicked off.
Mayor Carlo Rabat had warmly welcomed the around 7500 athletes and guests from the 11 delegations to the land of Sand, Surf and Sports during the opening ceremonies at Mati Centennial Sports Complex on Sunday, 19 March 2017.
Governor Nelson Dayanghirang on the other hand also shared his excitement over the holding of DAVRAA Meet 2017 as it tips to the upcoming Golden Anniversary of the province on the first of July.
Meanwhile, Congresswoman Corazon Malanyaon wished the event so well. “This is the opportunity to showcase the brand of our hospitality – the brand of one heart, one mind and one spirit not just for the province, but for the entire region…” she said.
Philippine Sports Commissioner Charles Raymund Maxey moreover inspired the athletes in his message to “play for the national team, for the Philippine flag” to set their perspective and attitude in playing and winning.
Department of Education Undersecretary for Administration Alain Del B. Pascua who served as the Guest Speaker of this annual regional sports event took the perspective to some greater ideals, posing the challenge to the participants saying “take the discipline and perseverance from the challenges you encounter in order to become the better person you wish to be.”
It may have started under the scorching heat of the sun at the Mati Park and Baywalk, they may have walked through the longest street from Bonifacio to Don Mariano Marcos Avenue, they may have waited for hours for their production at the arena, these just show that DAVRAA never gets easier. Instead, it gets better! This is the platform of continuing progress.
