What started as a marine environmental concern of some passionate workers had stirred a very noble cause to a coastal community by providing the marginal fisher folks a free dental services and health education to the young generation.
Mayor Carlo Rabat through his Chief of Staff Tanya R. Tan and the City Health Office headed by Dr. Benhur Catbagan conducted recently a dental mission at Maitum, Dahican. In collaboration with a group of dental practitioners and volunteers from the Philippine Coast Guard led by CGDSEM Commander Capt. Oscar C. Endona, 806th Squadron – Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, Philippine Navy led by PS31 Pangasinan Commander Capt. Oscar D. Canlas, 70th Naval Reserved Group, Department of Education, Philippine Information Agency XI, Davao Oriental Information Officers Organization, Free and Accepted Masons of the Phils. and the Barangay Council of Barangay Dahican headed by Punong Brgy. Nestor Escasinas, 119 out of 140 benefited the said mission.
The dental health bus of the Department of Health XI also volunteered its amenities and augmented the delivery of free services, particularly tooth extraction, cleaning and health education, that led to the successful conduct of the said activity.
Beyond the ordinary result of the mission which was the restoration of their dental health, improvement of their productivity and enhancement of their esteem was the extraordinary sentiment to share one’s treasure, time and talent to the community in dire necessity.
After the dental health tips given by Dr. Laly Serrano of the City Health Office, the children received dental supplies from the generosity of the Philippine Information Agency XI represented by its DAVOR InfoCenter Manager Jean Duron-Abangan.
